Unicorn Blush styled shoot

Boho Blush (with a hint of Unicorn!)

I was thrilled when Gwenda Jeffs (from Bohotanical and Unity Styling) got in touch with this fabulous styled shoot. You’ll be able to see the cake again within the pages of issue 11 (out next month), it’s incredible. And Prosecco lollies? Yes please…

Firstly Gwenda is going to explain her inspiration for the shoot and then each we hear from each supplier about their input and how they met the brief:

Gwenda – “I first devised the concept of this shoot on a visit to Karen at Rock The Frock in Essex; here I saw the blush pink and silver dress by Velvet Johnstone (with discreet unicorn motifs) and fell in love with it! It took a while to find the right combination of venue and vendors to bring it to life, but it was worth the wait! The styling revolved around the colours of blush pink, white and grey, and the textures of rose quartz and marble, combined with strong geometric elements – and the odd unicorn (after all, there doesn’t have to be a horse in fancy dress to add a bit of mythical magic to a wedding day). For the flowers, I kept it simple with different shades of pink unicorn tail, I mean astilbe, yes, astilbe!”

Kat (photographer) – “With all the soft pink prettiness in front of me, my main job was to make sure it all looked just as magical in the photos! Luckily the venue afforded us some lush green fields and beautiful flowering bushes which were the perfect backdrop!”

Lynette (hair stylist) – “The inspiration for me was fairy tale Disney princess colours, candy floss and My Little Pony! I wanted big colourful pastel shades of hair. An oversized braid with layers of colour and a beautiful half up half down in pink and lilac shades complimented the Howling Moon accessories and the gorgeous flesh flowers.”

Debbie (make up) – “My inspiration for makeup was to create a look of colourful elegance, capturing the essence of pureness and innocence. This was achieved by carefully blending an array of pastel shades, with a flash of vibrancy.”

Millie-Ann (cake) – “Taking my inspiration from the colour and textures of the styling, I created a three tier Prosecco cake, with a blush pink geode, on a marbled, edible chocolate cake stand. Shortbread biscuits are a popular addition to any dessert table, and these I covered with marbled icing. Finally, the lighthearted theme called for some fun Prosecco lollipops, which were decorated with gold stars and dusted pink unicorn silhouettes.

Vaishali (stationery) – “Creating a suite of stationery for this Unicorn inspired shoot was truly delightful. Anything with a unicorn involved is going to be ethereal and magical. We let our imaginations run wild! Drawing on a palette of white and grey, infused with blush and metallic accents. we created a dreamy series of invites, RSVP cards, place cards and table numbers. The invite is both covetable and precious. Its striking geometric lines and simple typography are set against a soft grey background. We think it combines fantasy and Art Deco to represent the unicorn in a beautiful way. The RSVP cards, place cards and table numbers feature more blush tones. We think the blush adds a ‘romantic bohemian’ vibe to the designs.”
