Caravanilla – Ice Cream with a Sprinkling of Nostalgia

March 25, 2016 | News

Doily Days are partial to weddings, ice cream and quirky retro caravans, so imagine the excitement when Caravanilla drove onto the scene, combining all three. Chichester based Caravanilla run their ice cream business from Olive, a beautifully restored 1960s Cheltenham Fawn caravan with a vintage feel inside and out.  Olive is available to hire for weddings, birthdays, parties, fetes or any kind of get together.  Wherever she goes, Olive is guaranteed to make people smile; serving up organic ice cream with a sprinkling of nostalgia. The caravan’s restoration was a six month labour of love completed over winter 2013…

Doily’s Bar

March 24, 2016 | News

We love working on our magazine but we missed being at weddings! We missed meeting the caterers, the photographers, seeing your creative ideas, smelling your flowers, watching your first dance, laughing at your dad’s speech… So we decided to get back out there! “What do all good weddings need?” we thought… and being the booze hounds that we are, we decided on a bar. The full pop-up set comprises vintage wallpapered walls; complete with antlers, flying ducks and record covers, a fridge, and our 1950s ‘boat’ cocktail bar. It’s a fun backdrop for photos and a practical solution for a…

An Intimate Relationship… with your photographer When it comes to wedding photography there is far more to the investment than just the money.  You may not realise it when you sit down to look at photographers’ websites (sometimes until your eyes blur), but your wedding photographer needs to also be invested in you.  And when I say invested I mean emotionally, psychologically, and whole-heartedly invested in you and your story.  Of all the people at your wedding, your photographer will be with you the entire time.  They will be in the midst of the emotions that will run throughout the…

Tara Deighton

September 28, 2015 | News

Lottie Emerson catches up with bridal designer and Doily Days Advertiser Tara Deighton… When I was 13 years old my mother told me something I will never forget. ‘’When you are older you will have a job. Find one you love doing and it will bring you joy and it will make you proud. Then it will no longer feel like a job and you can be happy, doing what you love everyday’’ The lucky ones in this world have this. Tara Deighton is one of those people. Tara has been in the bridal world for 3 years, she designs…

Home Sweet Home

March 4, 2015 | News

A homely home has always been important to me, from my bedroom when I was growing up, to my university digs and now my proper grown up flat… well, it’s probably smaller than my university digs to be honest but it’s mine, all mine 🙂 For me, it’s important to have bits and pieces around the home that mean something to you. I have old family photos, postcards my sister and I sent to my grandparents when we were kids, fridge magnets with meaningful sayings, pictures of my friends and vintage kitchenware I’ve picked up at car boot sales My…

Passion for your Product

February 19, 2015 | News

When I started Doily Days way back in 2009 it was after a lot of soul searching. I wasn’t happy in the jobs I was doing and really wanted something to satisfy my creative side and fully embrace my passion for vintage styling (this was before vintage went CRAZY and took over everything). I just loved how things ‘looked’… especially vintage/country/cosy things. I used to pore over images in magazines and on blogs. I just didn’t know how to get into this world and I was frustrated. It’s crazy to think that six years later I have my own magazine,…

A Happy Weekend in Margate

February 18, 2015 | News

I’ve just spent a lovely Valentines weekend on the Kent coast. After a long and painful drive we checked into our room at The Salutation in Sandwich… yes, that’s right, Steph & Dom’s B&B (if you’re a fan of Gogglebox you’ll know what I’m talking about, if not you’ll have no idea). It’s a beautiful mansion house with landscape gardens. We were very well looked after by the staff and after Eggs Benedict in the morning (and the obligatory posing on the sofa) we hit the road and made the short drive to Margate. I’d heard mixed reviews about Margate…
