Engagement Shoot

Dramatic, Arty Engagement Shoot

July 25, 2018 | News
We’re super excited to feature Daniel and Michael’s real wedding in our next issue (issue 12, out September) and, to whet your appetite, here are their engagement photos! Dramatic, arty shots taken in my hometown of Southsea, Portsmouth. Captured by the talented Carrie Lavers
“Having an engagement shoot was our photographer’s idea… we wouldn’t have thought to do it ourselves, but we’re so glad we did. We chose Old Portsmouth as our location. It’s an area close to our home, where we spend lots of time. It’s our favourite spot for a few beers at the weekend. We also love that it sums up the identity of our home town; boats, cobbled streets and quirky random buildings.”
“We came across Carrie Lavers through reading Doily Days (now Margot’s Wedding!). We had also seen her work in Southsea Folk magazine, and instantly liked her style. Carrie’s work is strong, beautifully framed, and she has an amazing ability to capture atmosphere.”
“During a brief chat with Carrie we agreed to do an early morning shoot to capture the sunrise in Old Portsmouth. We agreed to meet at 7am on a Sunday morning in the winter! Despite the sleepy faces and cold wind, Carrie was fun to hang out with and soon felt like a friend. She made us feel super relaxed and it was a great opportunity to get to know her before the big day.”
“We asked Carrie for a really casual shoot, capturing the eclectic / industrial / historic style of Old Portsmouth. As well as some great shots in the old town, we also nipped across to the Hovercraft landing where we got the moneyshot – and amazing moody sky, with us on the pebbles in the distance.”
“Our favourite pics are the ones which feature the sea. Probably because these are the type of pictures we’d actually want on our walls at home, and don’t look too self indulgent.”
