Abbie & Ollie didn’t feel a tradition wedding suited them so they opted for a civil partnership at Brighton Pavilion followed by lunch on the seafront… and a midnight swim.
Q. What was the theme/style for your big day?
A. The style of the day was “colourful, comfortable & chic”. We wanted guests to feel like they could dress down or dress up, express themselves and feel stylish but relaxed.
Q. What was most important to you when it came to tying the knot/celebrating your marriage?
A. The most important thing for us was that the day felt real and not staged or rehearsed. We wanted everything to represent who we were as people and for us all to have a genuinely fun day celebrating with our nearest and dearest rather than feeling any pressure to perform.
Q. How did you choose your venue and suppliers?
A. We love Brighton and once we’d found out that we could have our event at the Brighton Pavilion we had to explore the space. It’s just so quirky, not typical of any other weddings we’d attended. Other suppliers had to fit the bill of being cool, relaxed and individual and we felt that everyone involved in the day really helped elevate that vibe.
Q. Where did you get your ideas and inspiration?
A. We grew our own flowers at our allotment for our civil partnership which added to the colourful theme. The Pavilion building itself was an inspiration and Brighton is just a colourful place!
Q. Tell us about your outfit…
A. I chose a white top and bright floral skirt from Hope and Ivy. I have never been one for tradition so I just wanted something I loved and can wear again! Ollie wore a floral shirt, chinos and some shiny DM brogues.
Q. What was on the menu?
A. We held the reception at Lazy Fin down by the beachfront who serve casual, tasty and healthy dishes (i.e. crispy crayfish tacos, steamed mussels, burratas & rice bowls), unique ice cream flavours (i.e. hot cross bun) and some great cocktails to wash it all down.
Abbie and her siblings even had a midnight dip in the sea!
Q. Tell us about your photographer – how you found them, how they fitted into the day and what you thought of your finished gallery.
A. We were recommended Paloma by another local photographer we contacted. Paloma was a dream to work with, so friendly, funny and professional. She fitted into the day so well and it felt like she was another member of our group. Everyone loved her and our photos are incredible.
Q. What was your favourite memory from the day?
A. Seeing all of our guests smiling and having a great time on the last day of summer. (The next day it rained…) The love we felt towards everyone on the day made it so special.
Q. What was your first dance to/what did you walk down to the aisle to?
A. We didn’t have a first dance but WAP by Cardi B at the end of the evening was a highlight! Glad Paloma had left by then so there are no photos. We walked in to our civil partnership together to You and Me by Disclosure. We also had some of our favourite songs on the playlist including Years and Years, Spice Girls and Frank Ocean.
