The Boat Shed Open Day – Thank You

Hello, hello! This is a very quick blog post as my son is waiting patiently for me to make a rocket with him (full time school from next week! Bring it on…) I just wanted to say a big THANK YOU to all the suppliers who came together to make Sunday’s open day at The Boat Shed such a success. My vision really did come to life in the space. It looked incredible; the festoon lighting, the neon, the giant light up PARTY letters, the bar, flowers, furniture, tableware… the cake! The music. It was a total dream. I’ll be…

Sustainability Antique jewellery is classically beautiful and a great investment to pass down through the generations. Garden of England Bridal Shoot at The Secret Garden

Today we hand over to Lily Jones Events to tell us all about the inspiration behind this beautiful, quintessentially British bridal shoot at The Secret Garden in Kent… Kent, also known as the Garden of England, is definitely one of the most beautiful counties to get married in. With its rolling hills, beautiful coastline, bountiful orchards and hop gardens, Kent was named ‘The Garden of England’ by King Henry VIII and has kept true to its name to this day with its iconic oast houses and, most famously, growing the strawberries for Wimbledon tennis tournament every year.  With its beautiful…

I think big things are in store for The Boat Shed, Hampshire from next year and beyond! (Above photos: Annamarie Stepney) With our first wedding this summer postponed until next May, we’ve already got three weddings next year to kick things off. And we have back-to-back appointments booked at our open day on 13th September so I expect lots more bookings to come in after that. (Above photos: Annamarie Stepney) This is the first open day we’ve had at The Boat Shed. We had a wedding fair in March, it was a great day with A LOT of suppliers in…

Dutch Masters-themed Bridal Shoot @ Fabrica, Brighton

This unique and dramatic styled shoot was curated by Alex Cvijovic from The Wonderous Wedding Fair. Her vision for the shoot was to juxtapose the vibrancy of Dutch Golden age paintings with vintage florals. The palette was a combination of rich sultry colours with pops of blue and gold. The Venue Fabrica in Brighton is a former Regency church in the heart of the city. It boasts impressive stained glass windows, high ceilings, and a traditional overhead balcony. Now a contemporary art gallery, the venue allows a number of exclusive ceremonies to be held every year. Alex was looking for…

Not Just Bell Tents!

Our advertiser, East-Sussex-based Rent Event, owns an Aladdin’s Cave of hire items, from garden games to furniture, props, decor and photo booths. But if you glance at their Instagram feed you’d be mistaken for thinking they’re a bell tent hire company! That’s because as events have been cancelled left right and centre this summer because of Covid, bell tents have been utilised in people’s gardens for kids parties, hen dos, anniversaries etc. These images say it all really. We love the different interiors they offer – Moroccan-style chairs, tables and lanterns. Boho-style dream catchers and feather bunting. Pop-up hotel rooms…

Supplier Spotlight – Family Tree Ceremonies

Last week I had the pleasure of meeting Southampton-based celebrant Diane Bell. We met at Salt Cafe in front of The Boat Shed for a cuppa and a chit chat… and we covered a lot of ground! I loved finding out about Diane’s life and the recent path that led her to become a celebrant. In a former life Diane lived on the Isle of Wight and worked for the prison service. On returning to the mainland she worked in student well-being at Southampton University. It stuck me that Diane’s career has seen her working in very people-focused roles, and…
