The Boat Shed – London Warehouse Vibes by the Sea

Blog posts have been boat shed-heavy lately… but that’s just because we’ve got so much great content at the moment! We were eagerly awaiting the professional edited photos from our recent Boat Shed open day and boy, Weddings by Tom, did NOT disappoint. At the open day we really wanted to showcase the space and demonstrate how it could look for an event. We set up the space for a photo shoot back in March with a kitsch, colourful theme and this time I wanted something a little different. I still wanted the relaxed/rustic look because, lets face it, it…

The Boat Shed Open Day – Thank You

Hello, hello! This is a very quick blog post as my son is waiting patiently for me to make a rocket with him (full time school from next week! Bring it on…) I just wanted to say a big THANK YOU to all the suppliers who came together to make Sunday’s open day at The Boat Shed such a success. My vision really did come to life in the space. It looked incredible; the festoon lighting, the neon, the giant light up PARTY letters, the bar, flowers, furniture, tableware… the cake! The music. It was a total dream. I’ll be…

Updates from The Boat Shed…

I think big things are in store for The Boat Shed, Hampshire from next year and beyond! (Above photos: Annamarie Stepney) With our first wedding this summer postponed until next May, we’ve already got three weddings next year to kick things off. And we have back-to-back appointments booked at our open day on 13th September so I expect lots more bookings to come in after that. (Above photos: Annamarie Stepney) This is the first open day we’ve had at The Boat Shed. We had a wedding fair in March, it was a great day with A LOT of suppliers in…

Supplier Spotlight – Family Tree Ceremonies

Last week I had the pleasure of meeting Southampton-based celebrant Diane Bell. We met at Salt Cafe in front of The Boat Shed for a cuppa and a chit chat… and we covered a lot of ground! I loved finding out about Diane’s life and the recent path that led her to become a celebrant. In a former life Diane lived on the Isle of Wight and worked for the prison service. On returning to the mainland she worked in student well-being at Southampton University. It stuck me that Diane’s career has seen her working in very people-focused roles, and…

The Boat Shed – Kitsch & Nautical Styled Shoot

Way back in March, before the world ground to a halt, I organised a styled bridal shoot at The Boat Shed. I wanted an opportunity to get some awesome photos of the venue and I knew I could count of some of my fantastic contacts to collaborate… I wanted a pro on board when it came to the ‘look’ so I asked Sally Gallis, Events by Design if she’d like to lead on the concept and styling… and boy, did she do a good job! The theme was kitsch/nautical. The idea was fun, tongue-in-cheek, saucy sailor-boy kinda vibes. As you…

Hampshire Wedding Venue – The Boat Shed

Ok so we’re nearly into June and this summer is looking VERY different to the summer I imagined. I think it goes without saying that everyone’s summer/year is looking very different to the one they imagined. My heart goes out to everyone who has had to postpone/cancel their wedding. The thing about the Covid-19 outbreak is how everyone’s been affected in their own way and I just hope those planning 2020 weddings have managed to put a suitable plan in place. We don’t know yet how it’s all going to affect the wedding industry in the long term but it’s…

Bridal Inspiration – Southsea Styled Shoot

Today, extracted from our current issue, we’ve got an uber-cool inspirational shoot for you. Shot in my hometown of Southsea, Portsmouth and involving some of my very favourite supplier folk, this shoot was a no-brainer for our issue 17 cover. The only problem was choosing which image to use! The shoot was organised by my good friend and colleague Alex Cvijovic who runs The Vintage Parade and The Wonderous Wedding Fair. With a background in art and design, Alex always comes up with unique concepts and executes them perfectly. This shoot took place at The Queens Hotel in Southsea, a magnificent…

Taco Home Delivery Kits (Portsmouth)

Cooking and eating good food has become part of my lockdown routine, as has supporting local independent businesses who are stepping up and diversifying. So when I heard our advertiser Grate Catering & Events were offering taco delivery kits, I had to get involved! I realise this delivery offering is very local to me in Portsmouth, and if your mouth is watering elsewhere… I’m sorry! But Norm and Iris offer event catering further afield, check out the recent Q&A we featured to get a better idea of them and their business. Taco home delivery kit for two people includes: 10…

Q&A With Freight Train Runners

If you’re looking for a wedding band in Hampshire you must check out Freight Train Runners. They’re amazing! The video at the bottom of the post is testament to their talent… and a brilliant first dance song choice. Q. How long has Freight Train Runners been around? A. We’ve been together since 2016. Q. How did the band form?  A. I put the band together myself by inviting musicians I had worked with previously to join. I wanted to start something with a fresh and different take on set list choices. Q. What are your backgrounds? And do you all…
