A Colourful Wedding Doesn’t Necessarily Mean Rainbows…

When I saw this shoot it was no surprise to learn it was Photography by Vicki‘s concept (if you’ve seen her website or social media you’ll know why… she’s the queen of colour). In lockdown Vicki spent time researching colour combinations from the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. She found the colour clashes evoked memories from family and childhood photo albums. The clashes seemed fearless and Vicki wanted to see how combinations from these eras could work in the wedding industry. It was an experiment to move away from typical wedding colours. These colour combos provide inspiration to couples who want…

Book a Treatment and Wedding Consultation at Margot’s!

Would you like to come round and have a deeply relaxing hour-long energy treatment while talking all about your wedding? As well as my wedding duties I now offer a holistic treatment called Access Bars. Since I trained last month I have done countless treatments and met people from all walks of life. Some like to stay silent throughout the treatment, but some talk throughout and I’ve found the dynamic of a chat in that relaxed environment very powerful. Almost like an informal therapy session!.. For both of us! I have decided to offer the treatment combined with a wedding…

Lockdown Resources

Hello! How is lockdown 2 treating you? Personally I’m thanking my lucky stars school is still open, and I’m feeling positive after the US election result and news of Covid vaccine. #summer2021 is trending on Twitter and I’m hopeful all my boat shed bookings for next year can go ahead, and we can get back to wedding fairs before too long. I’m missing co-working in the pub with fellow wedding suppliers but I’m getting back into Zoom catch ups to stay connected. I’m moving house this weekend (I’m moving within walking distance of The Boat Shed!) so I’m being kept…

The House of Love Illustration

Imagine how happy I was when Megan Metcalf AKA The House of Love Illustration contacted me at the beginning of the year and said she wanted to come and do some live drawings at my Boat Shed wedding fair. I love her work and was so touched she made the journey all the way from Margate. Above are drawings she did on the day featuring The Curated Kitchen‘s exhibition stand. I guess the inviting grazing table of different colours and textures was the ideal still life! The above drawings were also done on the day, featuring buoys within the alternative,…

Updates from Margot’s HQ – Back to Work!

It’s the 1st of July! I’m moving home today after living with my sister for three months and I’m back in FULL work mode from tomorrow. I’m no longer Furloughed so bring it on! I thought today would be the perfect time for a reflective post, a look back on the last three months and a look ahead to the next three/six months. The last three months I’ve been Furloughed from the business since the end of March. All I’ve done is kept up with emails and blog posts (i.e. my statutory obligation as company director to ‘maintain the success…

FaceTime Photo Shoots with Tim Dunk

WHAT an intense few weeks. I feel like this week is an oasis of calm after a period of frantically trying to cobble together a new ‘life infrastructure’. I tried to cope alone in my garden-less flat with my four-year-old son for the first couple of weeks. I did my best to keep us both sane with plenty of baking, crafts and Joe Wicks workouts (intermingled with lots of Googling re the Furlough system and Universal Credit entitlement) but it soon became apparent that I was going slightly doolally. Crisis talks were had with my co-parent and my sister and…

Draw My Wedding

I met Tim King at Most Curious Wedding Fair in London this year. I loved his quirky offering, and his story. He told me the wedding business was a happy accident. He was doing a personal project, an illustration every day, and it just so happened he was going to rather a lot of weddings at the time! I think, alongside photography, this is such a brilliant was to capture the atmosphere and emotions of a wedding day. (Extracted from Issue 17). Capture Your Wedding Story with Reportage Illustration. Tim King is an award-winning reportage illustrator. His project ‘Drawn on…
