We catch up with the Neon & Blush ladies about work/life balance, Fizz Fridays and girl crushes…
How did you come up with your business idea?
Individually we all had wanted to do something within the wedding industry for years. We knew it complemented all of our backgrounds in styling, visual merchandising and gifting. Plus we all actually loved planning our own weddings and other life events such as baby showers, children’s birthdays etc and couldn’t shake that void left once the events had come and gone. After months of talking about starting something up, brainstorming products and business plans we just took the bull by the horns and did it. Before we knew it we had a vintage horse box outside Claire’s house (soon to be The Blush Bar) and 4ft Light up letters in her hall. We are really excited with how Neon and Blush is growing in these early days and as they say “when you love what you do, you will never work a day in your life”, add working with your friends to that mantra and we are pretty set.
How would you describe your style?
This is a hard one to answer as ultimately our style is the bride’s style (sorry boys, but it is mainly the girls that take over the planning) We work within the style and look that our clients want to achieve for their big day. Ultimately we think we bring an element of “coolness” by creating something just that little bit different and with an element of fun.
Who, in the public eye, suits your brand the most and why?
Holly Willoughby and Fearne Cotton- they are just the personification of our name Neon and Blush. With Fearne’s quirky, creative, fun style being the Neon and Holly’s chic, feminine, modernity being the “Blush” Neither take themselves too seriously, they are always themselves and you know if you went on a night out with them you would not stop laughing.
What’s the craziest thing you’ve done in the name of love?
Claire got married earlier this year in Port D’Antrax, Mallorca. She has always had a major fear of flying and had not gone out the country so we all knew that this venue had to be pretty spectacular. After completing a fear of flying course at Heathrow she put on a brave face and got on the plane. Things you will do for the love of a great man…..or venue!
What tune do you put on to get you ready for the day?
Always something upbeat… between us we have 5 daughters so our playlist is dominated with Little Mix and Taylor Swift….we do however love a zig a zig ah with a Spice Girls throw back. (Yes we are that cool).
What’s the best thing about working for yourself?
Family, flexibility, and fizz Fridays! – We can work around our children and home life, with our day typically starting after the school run. We are able to work around school plays, after school clubs, dentist appointments, and sickness. We don’t have to miss out as parents but also can successfully run our business and we end each week with a glass of prosecco on a Friday evening. That work-life balance is very rare when you work for someone else.
What do you love most about weddings?
Everyone is happy and excited. People are relaxed and really let down their hair at weddings. We feel very privileged to be able to share that with our couples and be part of what is one of the most important days in their lives.
What three items would you take with you on a desert island?
A good playlist, Prosecco, and friends.
If you could take anyone, who would you invite as your plus one to a wedding?
Okay so as there are 3 of us does that mean we get 3 plus ones??? David Beckham, Bradley Cooper and Bruno Mars – Style, Charm and swag!!!
What one piece of advice would you give to couples planning their wedding?
To remember that there ultimately are no rules when it comes to planning your big day. Often couples are so worried about traditions that don’t really work with their style. It’s your day, your way! Whatever style or theme you want to create! Your wedding day is all about you as a couple.
