Who’s got that back-to-school feeling? Parents all over the land shoot their hands up! My son doesn’t start school until next year so he’s been in nursery as usual all over the holidays. This time next year we’ll be knee deep in uniform, pencil cases and proud front door photos… what the hell am I going to do with him in the holidays?!
The end of the summer has a unique feeling I think, and boy what a summer it’s been! June wasn’t crazy for me but come July I had my Hampshire wedding fair with Kissing Gate Events so I was busy with last minute promo and all the small detail that comes with organising an event like that. When that was over, I was pretty much straight off on a camping trip, then my head was buried in issue 15, then my best friend’s wedding in France and here we are, the end of August. How on earth did that happen?!
At the outdoor wedding fair in July (view previous blog post to read about the event) we organised a live styled shoot. It was an added attraction for everyone – visitors to the fair got to witness the excitement of an editorial shoot as it unfolded, and exhibitors were invited to take part and get professional photographs of their product… and we got great content for the magazine and the blog! Winning all round.
On the day I had my trusty colleague Alex with me. Alex runs The Vintage Parade and hosts The Wonderous Wedding Fair in Portsmouth and Brighton (next event Portsmouth 27/10). We’re good friends and we always help each other out on event days.
Once all exhibitors were in situ in Kissing Gate’s beautiful traditional pole marquee we were able to start setting up the shoot under the shade of the trees. I’d created a mood board in advance so all exhibitors knew the kind of vibe we were going for. The theme was Electric Romance. I wanted vibrant, clashy colours and animal print (think the iconic styling in the film True Romance). Well I certainly got that and then some! Kerry from Teddy Pig Photography was the official photographer for the shoot and she turned up armed with the green tablecloth, animal print fabric (which absolutely made it, wouldn’t you agree?) and copper standing frame.
Sarah from Black Diamond Weddings was an absolute star, she brought so many good bits and bobs for the table – candles, napkins, glasses etc. Alex took charge of styling and bringing the whole concept together.
Becky from Blooming Cow Flowers created the floral centrepiece for the table, and the beautiful unstructured bouquet for our model Eliza. I LOVE LOVE LOVE pink and orange together anyway, and against animal print = the total dream.
The savoury food was provided by Kissing Gate Events and the sweet treats were made by Rachel from Martha Holli’s (who had her beautiful vintage caravan on display). She also provided macarons for our bridal bags and they were a.m.a.z.i.n.g.
Our model Eliza had her hair done by Hannah Hair UK. The fishtail plait looks so striking with the different colours in her hair doesn’t it? Makeup was by Totally Flawless who also added a touch of sparkle!
The outside venue was Thornton Wood, just one of the many outdoor venues Kissing Gate Events work with. It’s privately-owned land in Titchfield, Hampshire. I know our exhibitors and visitors loved the secluded spot complete with woodland, plenty of shade and lots of space that was filled with bell tents, horse box bar, horse box toilets and of course the traditional marquee. There was even an old fashioned merry go round for the kids and segways (for the big kids). All this, and our exhibitors, gave us a fabulous canvas for our shoot. The interior of the bell tents looked absolutely stunning… and what fun to have a swing hanging from the tree!
Inside the marquee, Eliza had fun in The Spirit of Scotland‘s whiskey bar, in Outside & Instant‘s photo booth and she struck a few poses in front of Lavender Wedding & Event Supplies fabulous colourful stand complete with ribbons and macrame.
Not only did we have Black Diamond’s campervan but Bus & Bug brought their beloved Pearl along too so we were able to get some great shots with both vehicles.
Barefoot sandals are by Ritz & Sass, ideal for a boho outdoor wedding.
Thanks to all involved, it really is amazing what you can achieve when creative minds come together!
