Faye’s Mix Tape
It’s Friday – hurrah! We feel like getting our dancing shoes on this weekend so we’ve decided to delve into the archives and revive an article we featured in issue 8 way back in 2016. Classic songs don’t get old do they?
Over to our friend Faye from Good Egg Media:
Do you have an ‘our song’ or are you panicking that you don’t? Are you a stickler for tradition or would you like to shake things up a little at your wedding? Maybe your beloved didn’t make you a mix tape (Google ‘cassette tape’ young folk). Not every couple has a special song and not everyone wants to sway along to a Celine Dion power ballad for their first dance. Whatever tune you choose, you want it to be memorable, whether it’s for the heartfelt lyrics or for being the track that got everyone up and dancing. Before you go off creating some John Legend / Elvis / One Direction mash-up, here’s my top twenty first dance tunes (in no particular order) featuring indie classics, soul greats, dance, rock ballads and the odd hipster one too:
Lets Stay Together – Al Green
Heroes – David Bowie
Bonnie & Clyde – Serge Gainsbourg & Brigitte Bardot
Thank You – Led Zeppelin
Sea of Love – Cat Power
One Step Beyond – Madness
First Day of My Life – Bright Eyes
You Got the Love – Candi Stanton
For Once in My Life – Stevie Wonder
Something – The Beatles
You and Me Song – The Wannadies
We Found Love – Rihanna
Tender – Blur
Happy – Pharrell Williams
Come Rain or Come Shine – Ray Charles
In my Life – The Beatles
Wild Horses – The Rolling Stones
Just the Way You Are – Billy Joel
Light and Day – Polyphonic Spree
Shiny Happy People – REM
Whatever song you choose, get on the dance floor and cut some rug as only two new married types can. You can thank me later!
