Jack & Dario’s Fun Fareham Wedding

Jack & Dario’s wedding plans were scuppered by Covid but luckily they only had to postpone their reception for a month. They tell us all about their relaxed, fun day…

Q. What was the theme/style for your big day?

A. We wanted something that looked rustic yet polished. We are both fairly low maintenance, so wanted something that was naturally beautiful and didn’t need too much adding to be ‘wedding-ready’. We like natural colour and tones so Nest & Anchor in Fareham was the perfect location for us. It has beautiful brickwork, and was intimate enough for the number of guests we wanted to cater for.

Q. What was most important to you when it came to tying the knot/celebrating your marriage?

A. We wanted our family and closest friends with us and we wanted everyone to feel relaxed, comfortable and well fed! We also wanted a venue that was dog-friendly as we wanted our dog to be the ring-bearer. Nest & Anchor was the perfect location for this as we regularly visit their cafe (The Dovecote) after our dog walks.

Q. How did you chose your venue and suppliers?

A. We approached Nest & Anchor during 2019 when the COVID-19 pandemic changed our plans. We knew the venue had the potential to be perfect for our needs and after speaking to Tom (the owner) we were certain the day would be a success. Tom worked with us to find a rustic pizza van which worked perfectly with our plans. The pizzas were delicious and went down very well on the day!

Q. Where and when did your legal wedding ceremony take place?

A. Our legal ceremony took place in June (a month before) at the Portsmouth Registry office. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 restrictions we couldn’t have the reception on the same day as planned. Luckily we were able to have it the following month. We decided we wanted to have a second ceremony at Nest & Anchor so our friends and family had the chance to witness our personal vows. We had one of our best friends as our ‘celebrant’ and we loved how personal, relaxed and warm the whole ceremony was. How many people can say they had two weddings to the same person!

Q. What was on the menu?

A. We went for charcuteries, antipastos, ploughman’s, patisseries and baguette/sandwich platters for lunch. This was served buffet-style after the ceremony. Later that evening, our pizza van arrived and served sourdough pizzas. We also had a self-serve ice cream parlour that the venue organised.

Q. What was your favourite part of the day?

Jack – My favourite part of the day was a ceremony. It was such a lovely experience having one of my best friends lead the ceremony surrounded by my closest friends and family. It also put my mind at ease knowing that we’d already done the ‘legal bit’ the month before, so I could really enjoy and relish every moment!

Dario – I loved it when everyone came onto the dance floor at the beginning of the night after being locked down for two years. The atmosphere was electric and everyone was so carefree, happy and excited to finally be dancing and socialising again!

Q. Tell us about your photographer – how you found them, how they fitted into the day and what you thought of your finished gallery.

A. Our photographer was Scott Morey and I found him online. He lives just around the corner from us and knew the local area well. I like how Scott’s wedding photography is artistic in the sense that he captures a variety of shots and moods and his pictures don’t all look like they’ve been through the same filter. He came round from a preliminary meeting and we discussed possible locations for shots. On the day Scott was excellent at disappearing into the background but also making himself heard when he needed. I will always remember him shouting at me, “The sunset won’t wait for you! If you want your sunset shots we need to go now!” This was after our first dance and he managed to drive a slightly drunken Dario and I up to the hill for some stunning couple shots. He provided us with an online gallery a few weeks after the day and we were extremely happy with how well he captured our day!

Q. What music did you have? And, if you had a first dance, what song did you choose?

A. Our friend Rob Boniface is a DJ and offered to DJ for the wedding. Nest & Anchor had all the equipment he needed and the DJ stage was perfect for the evening of dancing. One of our best friends, Sian Ellis, also sang for us which added another personal touch to the day, and everyone loved it. Our first dance was Human by The Killers. We struggled to settle on a song initially but this was an upbeat song that we both loved (and also helped distract people from our dancing!)
