Today we get to know wedding photographer Wayne Kahn. We love his skills behind the lens, his images speak for themselves, and he has a unique talent for capturing the essence of a scene; whether that’s love, humour, beauty, innocence…
Q. Hi Wayne! Please tell us about your background and how you got into photography.
A. I have been doing photography for 18 years now, I started working at a portrait studio but soon pushed myself to be the lead photographer in the studio, and then own my own studio. Throughout the years I’ve shot fashion, lifestyle, portraits and weddings.
Q. How would you describe your photography style?
A. At it’s core for me it’s about photographing people how they are, I love the candid and the posed images you can create from really getting to know someone and showing them how amazing they are.
Q. What do you love about wedding photography?
A. I sometimes get asked this by other photographers who are scared to do wedding photography. How can you not love it?! It’s a day of celebration with friends and family. A day where everyone comes together to show love and happiness. As I always stay for the whole day I really do get to tell a story that ends up being so special and timeless.
Q. Who’s your ideal client? i.e. describe the style of wedding you love to shoot.
A. Tough question, I think for me it would be the couples that trust my creative vision. I love having a creative journey with each couple, for them it is their first time (usually) but for me I can help guide and let them know what will happen. In terms of style of wedding… is it a cop out to say I love them all? Hahaha.
Q. What’s your favourite part of a wedding?
A. Apart from if I’m lucky enough to enjoy the food?! I would say I love the getting ready shots in the morning, it allows for so much creativity and if I get to photograph the groom and his groomsmen as well that is even more amazing as I love to show both sides of that anticipation in the morning.
Q. When you’re not working what do you like to photograph?
A. I would say my daughter, she is 9 now and a constant source of inspiration.
Q. What inspires you?
A. Other photographers inspire me hugely, and not just current but from the past as well. It never ceases to amaze me how images can be captured.
Q. What would the perfect (non-working) weekend look like to you?
A. Definitely going to the beach with my family, Bournemouth is clearly my favourite.
Q. To you, what makes a good photo?
A. Being able to see something that isn’t always obvious and letting the viewer see what I did.
Q. What does the future hold for Wayne Kahn Photography?
A. Having been photographing for 18 years now, I still find so much love in photographing people. In the future I would love to do more destination weddings.
