Styled Shoot – Edgy, Intimate, Sustainable

Earlier this year Jude (stylist and venue owner of Wickerwood Farm) and Anna (floral designer from Tales from Apple Tree House) hatched a plan for an inspirational bridal shoot. They wanted to focus on intimate weddings (sign of the times) with an emphasis on sustainability, a subject close to both their hearts.

The concept of the shoot was to depict the ever-changing seasons using dried flowers from Anna’s East Sussex cutting garden, as well as Jude’s interpretation of ‘festive luxe’. It shows how a smaller, intimate venue can be cleverly used to create a mood using natural, organic materials.

The location was an old hay barn at Wickerwood Farm chosen specifically for its industrial, rustic vibe. It was complimented perfectly by the organic textures and tones of the dried floral installations. Jude’s carefully selected props co-hired by @toasthq give the impression of a super-cool lounge space. The colour, texture and style of the sofa plays a vital role in the overall aesthetic of the shoot. The deep, rich red gives the feeling of festive warmth and luxury amongst the dried seasonal textures.  The neon with its coral glow completes the backdrop; edgy and stylish juxtaposed against the worn timbers of the barn.

Anna’s climbing wall installation comprises colours from all seasons, and textures a-plenty. Scorched and golden grasses, faded bracken, fluffy reed grasses, heads of Lunaria, poppies, Allium, Ammi, hydrangea… Crocosmia berries add pops of orange.

Who doesn’t love a pet at a wedding

This shoot demonstrates you don’t have to have fresh cut flowers for your bouquet or flower crown. Opting for a dried alternative means you can take home a sentimental keepsake.  The buttery tone of the wide, naturally-dyed ribbon from @thenaturaldyeworks, gives the organic bouquet style and finesse. Only sustainable, reusable methods were used for all the dried flower installations. No floral foam was used.

The team specifically chose a non-traditional cross-backed jumpsuit from @melissaodabash for a relaxed, retro look. The feather shoulder piece created a different look.

@makers.hands was specifically chosen to photograph this shoot due to her unique warm tone and attention to detail.

Hair and makeup stylist Poppy created a strong look, working in contrast to the delicate pale flowers.
